Hiplife just like Highlife will forever stay Rich. Speech production CEO Mr. Enoch Agyepong writes.

Image
Hiplife is 30years old and we all have our stories to tell in this biggest movement ever to happen in the history of Ghana and all these individual stories is what comes together to celebrate what was given birth by the Grandpapa called Reggie Rockstone. 12years ago Speech Production GH Executively Produced a Hiplife tune titled “Say Ah” which featured Akesifuor, Okomfuo Kwaadae & Big Joe Frazier obviously heavy industry Giants. Interestingly the one who shot the Video was also a pioneer of Hiplife ie Quophi Okyeame. This Single which was produced, mixed and mastered by Ball J was purposely birthed for the Records and it served its purpose. Hiplife just like Afrobeat today was then the single Genre that represented Ghana and all the Artist including Reggae Artists found refuge under the Hiplife Umbrella. Today we cannot even boast of a Single Genre spearheading our industry whether it’s Asakaa or Trap or Ghanaian Drill or dancehall or whatever yet we have these treasures of Highlif...

Ghanaians just simply lack a sense of appreciation - Peter Sedufia writes

Image
I think most Ghanaians just simply lack a sense of appreciation. We're all after the money, to be honest. A lot of the time, film industry folks complain that people have links and accesses but keep it all to themselves and don't share. Let me tell you why they keep it to themselves: we're unappreciative. Someone told me this when I started filmmaking as a newbie, but I never understood.  In 2017, I discovered a South African distribution firm, and we started a good relationship. I wasn't selfish with this discovery. I shared with my fellow filmmakers, and now, that distribution company has become a go-to company for almost all Ghanaian filmmakers.  About 50% of Ghanaian films you see on Netflix, apart from mine, I secured distribution deals for them. I just don't talk about that. Some also went directly to the distribution firm, although a number of them later came back to me when they didn't get a response.  In all these, none of these folks have reached out t...

The President's Daughter illegal position is not only affecting the Arts but Ghana as a whole - Kojo Preko Dankwa "Focap President"

Gyankroma who calls herself the CEO of the Creative Arts Agency, A position that doesn't exist in the Creative Arts Agency Act, Act 1048 is really hurting the Creative industry and Ghana with her ""Unside Down & Reckless Decisions. I'll just name only 3 and leave the rest to Posterity. 1. We all saw the shame and disgrace, She brought on the Jubilee House with her decision to allow Meek Mill shoot a music video in the Highly Security facility. 2. Recently, she led a delegation to fight against music from foreign countries by proposing a 80% play of only local songs. It is good to promote your own, but it must come with a well thought through plan and not with such recklessness. I can tell you on authority that our songs have started falling down the World Music charts after that declaration since Music is a global commodity that can not be localised like Gob3. 3. Her decision to use the Stadium for Musical Concerts and other activities apart from football when t...

Image
Reading the Report of The Joint Committee on Trade, industry & Tourisim and Youth, Sports and Culture on the 2024 Annual Budget Estimates Of The Ministry Of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC), You'll see the policy/strategic objectives  outlined, the challenges of the ministry, etc. We'll discuss them later but we're more intrigued by the budgetary allocation for the 2024 financial Year which is One Hundred and Seventy-Five million, Three Hundred and Eighty- Eight Thousand and Ninety-Nine Ghana CEDI’s (Ghc175,388, 099.00) for its operations.  In the breakdown with regards to allocation to various programs by source of funding, Culture, Creative Arts and Heritage Management is taking a whopping Ghc107,629,495.93. This amount comes as the collasal of the allocation to various programs by the ministry.  What has made it possible to see it shot up is what the industry needs to find out from the ministry to give further insight into it. We do not want to believe it i...
