It is worrying how a Criminal Libel Law which was repealed in 2001 will find its way back into our law books in 2020 via a Cyber law. Our laws have provided Civil ways of resolving Free Speech offenses and we don’t need any form of Free Speech CRIMINALIZATION. If we’re really practicing democracy and being governed by a tolerant President then we should give the citizens the freedom to speak but if we’re not ready for the consequences that comes with democracy then let’s CRIMINALIZE speech so we go back to the Military days where the security agencies were used to intimidating citizens.   President John Dramani Mahama and UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan agreed Wednesday to strengthen energy cooperation. They proposed that the UAE invest in oil and gas storage facilities in Ghana.  The two leaders held these discussions on the sidelines of the "Make it in the Emirates 2026" summit at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The Government of Ghana has facilitated the safe return of Mr. Emmanuel Akowuah Asamoah, a Ghanaian national who was seen in a widely circulated video linked to recent xenophobic incidents in the Republic of South Africa. He arrived on Tuesday, 5th May, 2026 in the company of Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency Benjamin Anani Quashie. Ghana formally communicated its intention to establish a diplomatic mission in Singapore during a High-Level Consultative Visit led by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honouable James Gyakye Quayson (MP) from 10th to 15th April, 2026. March 24, 2026. The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Ebi Bright, has held a stakeholder engagement with parents, teachers and learners of the TMA Day Care Nursery, Site 18, following the recent plane crash incident witnessed by the school community.   The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral talks with the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-Myung aimed at strengthening the relations between the two countries. The Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, paid a working visit to the Port of Tema to inspect the progress of ongoing dredging works aimed at enhancing navigational efficiency and operational capacity at the port. The exercise involves the dredging of the  turning basin from -11.5m to -14m, while Berths 13 and 14 are being dredged to depths of -14m and -12m draft respectively to accommodate larger vessels and improve operational efficiency. This evening, I convened a virtual meeting with our Ambassadors and Consuls General in the Middle East to assess the latest developments and explore additional consular interventions towards the protection of Ghanaians. The Heads of Mission for Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Iran and Turkey participated in the virtual meeting. I am glad to report that so far no Ghanaian has been killed or injured. We have put together a reliable database of all Ghanaians in these countries including those who were on short visits and those who were transiting.  All missions have been tasked to identify Ghanaians within their jurisdictions who wish to be evacuated for the urgent consideration of government.  Meanwhile, our diplomatic missions are currently assisting a considerable number of Ghanaians escape across certain strategic border crossings.  The safety and welfare of all Ghanaians remains our utmost priority.  For God and Country 🇬🇭 🙏🏾

  Extradition proceedings have commenced in the United States this week against former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, according to the Office of the Special Prosecutor. This was revealed in court on Thursday, February 26, during the hearing of the criminal case against Ken Ofori-Atta  and 7 others. The OSP revealed in court that two separate proceedings have been instituted against the former finance minister in the United States. The first relates to alleged immigration violations which commenced in January 2026. The second proceeding, which began this week, concerns Ghana’s formal extradition request seeking his return to stand trial.  The Republic further told the court that Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised the Attorney-General that the United States Department of Justice has acknowledged receipt of the extradition package. Ghana has commenced diplomatic negotiations with Ukraine aimed at securing the release of a Ghanaian national (name withheld) who is being held by the Ukrainians as a prisoner of war.  The Ukrainian Government has notified us of the arrest of our national and provided his identity which we have now verified.  Evidence made available indicates that the Ghanaian arrived in Moscow, Russia on July 7, 2024 where records show he signed a contract to join the 2nd Assault Company of the 71st Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division. He subsequently participated in hostilities in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
