Mr. Richster Amarfio as “The Hope of the Grassroots.” - Hon. N. A. Narh Writes
Reading The Signals In Tema East
In politics, praise is never just praise. Especially when it is public, loud, and well-timed.
Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten’s decision to openly commend Mr. Richster Amarfio at the Annual Thanksgiving and Devotional Worship may have looked harmless on the surface. A citation here, a few kind words there. But in Tema East, nothing stays innocent for long.
The real temperature rose when a flyer began circulating on social media, boldly branding Mr. Richster Amarfio as “The Hope of the Grassroots.” No position stated. No office mentioned. No explanation offered. Just a carefully chosen message, left to speak for itself. And in politics, silence speaks loudly.
That single omission has fueled intense speculation within the constituency and among party insiders. The question now echoing across Tema East is simple but loaded, Is the MP quietly supporting Mr. Richster Amarfio to take over the Constituency Chairmanship from Hon. Kempes?
This question is not emerging from thin air. It is an open secret that relations between Hon. Ashai Odamtten and the current chairman, Hon. Kempes, have been anything but smooth. Hon. Kempes is widely perceived to be aligned with Lawyer Michael Nii Abbey, the same Lawyer Abbey who once challenged the MP in the primaries and, despite losing, remains a significant political force in the Ndc
Why? Because in Tema East, power does not only sit in Parliament. It sits at the grassroots. And Hon. Kempes is believed to command that terrain firmly.
Seen through this lens, the sudden elevation and promotion of Mr. Richster Amarfio is causing many to read between the lines. To some, this looks less like coincidence and more like strategy ,a calculated attempt to break the chairman’s grip on the base and, by extension, weaken Lawyer Michael Nii Abbey ahead of any future internal contest.
Of course, for now, everything remains speculation. The flyer does not tell us what Mr. Richster Amarfio is contesting for. His camp has not issued any clarification. And Mr Richster Amarfio himself has not addressed the growing whispers. But politics abhors a vacuum, and where clarity is absent, suspicion thrives.
There is also a deeper discomfort among party loyalists. Many argue that if Mr. Richster Amarfio is indeed being positioned to replace Hon. Kempes, it would be seen as a betrayal of party loyalty. This is because Hon. Kempes is widely credited with playing a pivotal role in securing the MP’s second-term victory through relentless grassroots mobilisation and organisational strength.
In today’s Tema East, one thing is clear, this matter has moved beyond thanksgiving ceremonies and framed citations. It is now about influence, control, and who truly holds the soul of the party at the grassroots level as the next internal battle quietly approaches.
Politics after all, is not about what is said.
It is about what is being prepared and the question been asked in constituency is what is the motive behind the flyer of Mr Richster Amarfio with no official position stated.
