GA-ADANGBE COUNCIL CALLS ON MAYOR OF TEMA.

The Mayor of Tema on Tuesday hosted a delegation from the Ga-Adangbe Council, led by its President, Lawyer Ayiikwei Otu, and the President of the Tema Youth Association, Mr. Abraham T. Adjei, to discuss collaborative efforts towards preserving cultural heritage and promoting urban renewal in Tema.

A key highlight of the meeting was the proposal to redevelop the old Meridian site into a Cultural and Heritage Centre — a 23-acre state asset that will serve as a hub for cultural education, traditional governance, and tourism. The project will include cultural offices, residences for chiefs, and a heritage hotel to attract visitors and host major cultural events.

The discussion also focused on reviving cultural education and language preservation, with calls for scholarship support and training programmes for teachers of culture and tradition. The upcoming ‘Heroes and Heroines’ book project was also discussed as a creative way to celebrate Ga-Adangbe achievers and inspire pride among the youth.

Preparations are also underway for the Cultural Congress, expected to attract over 1,000 participants.

The Mayor reaffirmed her commitment to beautifying Tema through the ongoing “Tema Facelift” campaign, targeting sanitation, congestion, and community safety — all crucial to positioning Tema as a clean, safe, and culturally vibrant city.

Both parties agreed to strengthen collaboration to restore Tema’s identity as the City of Heritage, Culture, and Progress.
