Actor Alex Usifo Calls Out Ghana’s Xenophobic Tendencies – Enock Agyepong Fires Back at CTV Host
A wave of debate has swept through social media after veteran Nigerian actor Alex Usifo criticized what he described as “primitive xenophobic behaviour” hindering the progress of Ghana’s movie industry.
Usifo, famed for his powerful roles in classic Nollywood productions, expressed disappointment over how some Ghanaians in the media treat Nigerian actors and collaborations. His remarks, made during a recent interview, have sparked strong reactions—especially from Ghanaian entertainment commentator Enock Agyepong, who publicly agreed with Usifo’s concerns.
In a passionate Facebook post, Agyepong argued that Ghana’s entertainment industry has long been affected by poor leadership and divisive attitudes. He singled out CTV Ghana and its presenter Kweku Annang, accusing them of promoting “xenophobic utterances” on national television.
“Kweku Annang has made it his useless agenda to attack Nigerians,” Agyepong wrote. “He may not hold much influence here, but outsiders could easily take him as a representative of Ghana’s mindset—and that’s deeply unfortunate.”
Agyepong also referenced a previous protest Annang reportedly organized against Nigerians in Ghana, describing it as a “failed and senseless move.” He cautioned that such conduct tarnishes Ghana’s international image and harms opportunities for collaboration, which are vital to both the music and film industries.
“Crime has no colour or nationality,” Agyepong emphasized. “If anyone—be it Ghanaian or Nigerian—commits an offence, deal with the person, not the entire nationality.”
He further called out regulatory bodies such as the National Communications Authority (NCA), National Media Commission (NMC), ARSOG, and Ghamro for failing to act while platforms like CTV “paint Ghanaians in an ugly light.”
The discussion has since reignited calls for unity, professionalism, and cross-border respect within the creative arts sector.
“That nonsense must stop now,” Agyepong declared, “before our already struggling industry becomes completely isolated.”
