Power can blind and make you deaf to Reality.
Ex President Mahama at the Creative Connect in Kumasi described the Creative Industry as getting worse and Uncle Rex reiterated the same FACT over the weekend but according to the Deputy Minister Mark Okraku-Mantey said the industry is rather in a far better state and that Rex should provide statistics to buttress his claim.
If you ask me I’ll say the industry is in a very very bad state and it’s nothing to write home about.
Ghallywood went to sleep long ago and Kumawood that was keeping the film industry awake joined it a few years ago. Almost all the Actors are now struggling on YouTube to find their daily bread and the rest have turned into followers of politicians.
All we see on our screens are foreign soap operas and I guess that’s what our Minister is proud of.
The music industry is in a sad state with no investors and it’s left with the individual Artists struggling on their own with no assistance from even government.
The CMO’s that use to give them royalties have been rendered redundant by this same government who has refused to renew their licenses.
The only thing Mark can boast off will be their year of return and December in Gh and you ask yourself whether Creatives will only eat in December. Fact is government has created nothing in December but only partnered already existing private events just to collect fans.
Fact is the film and the music industry doesn’t exist locally and if not for the internet and the YouTube’s and iTunes that comes with it like the entire industry would have been extinct.
If we add sports to it then we can conclude that the current state of our BlackStars actually summarizes the entire performance of our Creative Arts & Sports sector and obviously it can only be described as shambolic
As a former record label owner who is now a minister and can’t even boast of any major labels in his era but will still call into a tv show after 12midnight just to defend his abysmal performance one can only tell how power can excuse me to say blind you from the reality.
In fact Honorable,
Where are your theatres
Where are your Amphitheaters
Where are your ultramodern studios &
Where is the film village just to mention a few that your government promised the industry.
I guess He Who Feels it Knows it.
