ILLEGAL MINING CAN BREED REBELS
ILLEGAL MINING CAN BREED REBELS.
The Lands belongs to the Chiefs, but the Minerals in them belongs to the government.
A China man who comes in with a concession from the government can not be stopped by a chief in his village.
Now, if our forest reserves and water bodies are being destroyed by these activities, we should blame no one but government.
The citizens that reside in these villages will not sit while such activities go on from the top, so they'll also join in since they can't stop it.
The norm is to go to school, find a job, and get paid via salary, but if there is an option to mine and get rich, why not.
Due to the illegality of these activities, the stake and risk are very high. In fact, some believe that the death of some minners at a mining site brings more luck in finding more gold so you can imagine.
These local miners also believe in black power for protection from other miners and even government.
Some also acquire sophisticated weapons to protect themselves while engaging in their activities.
Some get very rich overnight and in their quest to gain more they form gangs and become more powerful in the Bush and a typical example is Kwame Ato Asare who threatened to kill some policemen in the Axim forest whiles filming it.
Well, how far with that case?
These activities, if not controlled properly by the government, could breed a lot of rebelliousness, which could have dire consequences on innocent citizens.
Fact is, if a chairman of a party in government is deeply engaged in mining, how do you expect that government to control those mining illegally?
Painfully, after all these years of mining by government and the rest there has been no improvement in our economy but rather greedy individuals acquiring wealth whiles destroying the environment for the masses.
A responsible government will protect the forest and waterbodies of its citizens, but an irresponsible government will actually destroy the forest RESERVE and the waterbodies of its citizens, so help us God.
