Nurses are our Angels on Earth & we must take good care of them - Enock Agyepong
Nursing, just like teaching, is not just any profession but comes with a calling.
First and foremost, you must have the passion for the Job, you must also have love for humanity, you must be able to withstand blood and nauseating situations as well and most of all you must have the Patience to understand any form or type of Patient you encounter.
Back in the village, a midwife or even the trainee nurse was one of the most important persons there, and everybody's health depended on them.
A few years ago we had people who chose Nursing as a career without a calling and their treatment towards their Patients really angered society leading to some form of protest and disrespect for the entire Nursing Profession but in recent times it seems these Nurses have received the right orientation and have changed from their arrogant ways making society accept them back wholeheartedly.
The Nursling profession is indeed a selfless one, and no selfish or arrogant human being deserves a place in there.
In recent times, we saw how Nurses were being treated with disdain when they had finished their training and were only looking forward to be posted to various health centers. We saw them demonstrating under the hot sun for days just because they wanted to work and take care of us when we got sick.
Society was a bit passive about their protest even though a few people spoke out, but we should have vehemently supported them.
Fast forward to today, a lot of them have picked their passports and travelled overseas to countries where their services will be needed and respected and interestingly we have the same authorities who ignored their calls and demonstrations now complaining about their Exodus and one will ask himself are we correct at all?
As I said, these Nurses are our Angels on Earth, and they actually come into our lives in our weakest moments therefore, we really need to take good care of them as a society and country.
A recent survey shows that only 1% of our health facilities are adequately prepared for any major disease outbreak, and this, if you ask me, is an emergency on its own.
Whiles they're looking for who to blame and also find solutions to this worrisome development we should continue to advocate for our Angels to be treated with all the Respect and care they deserve as they also continue to take good care of us in our deplorable Health Care System.
