How well are we Protecting our PRIMARY MARKET?

The reality is that we are in a digital world where Music today is basically assessed via our phones. Fact is, these digital platforms are being controlled or manipulated by humans with interest who makes us see & listen to what they want us to. Playlisting is key, and just like radio promo, it's also being influenced as well.

Beyond this convo which you can basically do little about there is what we call the PRIMARY MARKET where every country can do a lot about.

Some countries have activated policies to protect their Primary Market whiles others have opened their anus for every Tom Dick and Harry to pass through and take full advantage of.

Today, Ghanaian event organizers in December spend about 3.5million dollars on foreign Artists whiles denying our own local Artists venues to perform.

Fact is we didn't get here overnight and it didn't only take the digital space to attain this state but also the contribution of key Gatekeepers, DJs, event organizers who prioritised Foreign Artist and championed their works over ours.

The TRUTH is nobody can advocate for a 100% local content in this global world today but sensible countries like I said earlier will always find a way to protect their Primary market.

There is no way any country can exist like an island in today's world but common sense will expect you to protect your territory in order to maximise your profit. You're what you listen to and watch so if you repeatedly listen to and watch these foreign Artists you'll end up wanting to pay to see them perform.

It's sad how a typical Ghanaian will love to patronise a foreigner's product rather than his own brother's product and you wonder whether it's jealousy, wickedness or Witchcraft. He'll actually love to see a Davido or Wiz take away 3.5mil than to see a Shatta or Stonebwoy take even a 2.5mil forgetting that when that money comes into the system it will atleast benefit Bhim or SM fans including DJs who are Ghanaians but as usual eb3 k) goal dier enk) corner Gyimeee.

The ongoing DJs debate is very good which I hope the father of all DJs Merqury Quaye is taking critical note of but it also goes beyond just Music since our film industry is having the same issues with media Houses prioritising Foreign soap operas over local content. I mean local Producers are being told to go and look for sponsors for their local content whiles these same Tv Stations are buying foreign soap operas and going ahead to look for sponsorship for it. Sadly our local contents end up on YouTube whiles the foreign Soap Operas take over our local TV Stations. Wei.

Fact is Nigerians and Ghanaians will forever be brothers & sisters and just as they protect their Primary Market let's also get sense and Protect our Primary Market even as we continue to work and live together.

Today on my Label I have 2 Nigerian Artist as against 7 Ghanaian Artist so I'll be the last person to advocate for a 100% local content but in matters of this nature Ghana should always come first because no sensible human being will choose another over himself.

NB: This might be the last Post we'll do on this Topic because it's becoming very tyring to talk about it especially when some gatekeepers have decided to front for foreigners and sellout industry for their personal gains no matter what and therefore we can only wish Industry well.
