Second Fiddle is always Less Important.

Second Fiddle is always Less Important.

Story by KYAscriptoriumblogpost

Knowing thy self is Knowing peace since that's the only way to accept the position you've chosen.

We are a Sovereign Country with Brilliant and Talented independent Musicians who have played the World Stage as their platforms.

From Osibisa, Ambuley to the Rockstone, Rocky Dawuni to our 4S (Sark, Stone, Shatta, Samini) to our own Wiyaala just to mention a few and Grammys, BETs, GMAs, MOBO, Afrima will be among the list you'll find them on as lead Characters and NOT Second Fiddle.

The music industry is so dynamic that you can't tell players how to do their business as long as what they're doing actually works for them.

There is this new phenomenon in our space that sees our talents being exported into a seemingly Second Fiddle position to our Naija brothers.

There is a saying that if you can't beat them just join them yet this does not mean you should sell your birthright for gob3 simply because you're hungry.

We've had our years when Naija Artist had to join us because we had already taken the lead and they then worked hard to reach where they are today. The fact is they didn't come to play Second Fiddle to us but they came to collaborate by introducing labels like Kennys and even sharing our Awards Night with us.

One thing we failed to do was to protect our space therefore strengthening their cultural imposition over ours and a typical example was Ghana meets Naija which was always staged in Ghana and hardly allowed in Nigeria.

We opened our TV & radio stations to their tuface and Psquard's and till date some of our DJs prefer promoting Naija works than our own since their hunger levels have clouded their sense of patriotism.

Like I said earlier the tables have turned and today our people are the ones going there trying to find ways into their market, but the question is, are they receiving us like we received them?

Well, I believe it all boils down to how well we've positioned ourselves either as independent Artist that collaborates or as Second Fiddles that follow.

I've watched King Promise grace one of their biggest platforms and the supper reception he received and I've also heard complains from some Artist who were not allowed to appear on their Tv platforms.

In all this, I believe they should reciprocate the gesture we showed them in the past, especially when some of our Artist come through their industry.

Fact is when you know you're Second Fiddle you should learn how to complain less.

My only issue with this new found migration was with the stealing of Artist from their Labels but that seems to have been resolved and I know moving forward we'll have more fully baked Artist than just half baked hitmakers going through to get stuck in the middle simply because they were not put through the mill.

For our Wiyaala's, Sarks & Co who are touring the world independently & through collaborations we say a big shout out and more grease to their elbows.

Always remember that Jamaica is a small island yet they've  produced World Class Talents simply because they believe in themselves and pushed beyond their boundaries.

Like I said in this industry there are so many ways to kill the cats so choose your path and work diligently and let Jah be your guide.

Music breaks barriers and today's digital world has made it easier than ever so Polish your Talent & Sell it to the World.

The world is Yours.
