Current state of the Creative Arts Agency is a disincentive to the Creative Industry.

The Creative Arts Agency, Ghana is an Act of Parliament(Act 1048)  and accordingly governed by Law.

It is suppose to have a Board comprising of Stakeholders and government and also a Chairman & Executive Secretary appointed by the President.

Strangely, that sector has been put on autopilot since it was passed into law with the President's daughter(Gyankroma Nana Akuffo Addo) controlling it like a Gadget/Toy bought for her personal use.

Yes we all saw how she single handedly took Meek Mill to shoot a Music Video at the Seat of the Presidency which obviously wouldn't have happened if there was a board in place.

Currently as we speak, the Ghana Tourism Authority is out with their annual report(Tourism Report 2022) and as usual the Creative Arts Agency which is also an Agency under the Ministry has nothing to show simply because it does not exist officially.

Our current issue has to do with the Visit of Popular American Film Director Spike Lee to Ghana and the fact that the Creative sector especially the Film Sector couldn't meet him for some fruitful deliberations and possibly collaboration.

Account of Spike Lee.

1. According to Spike Lee he was eager to meet with the Creative Sector and therefore publicised his visit.

2. When he got here they contacted the Beyond the Return Office to facilitate the meetings.

3. According to Spike they stayed here for 3days and couldn't meet anyone from the film sector before returning.

Now to the Director of the Diaspora Affairs, Mr Akwasi Awuah Ababio's response.

1. He confirmed that indeed they had prior notice before Spike arrived.

2. He also confirmed that they actually got to the office to facilitate the meetings.

3. HE CONFIRMED THAT HE EVEN MADE THEM SPEAK TO THE DIRECTOR AT THE CREATIVE ARTS AGENCY VIA PHONE.

Please Note that No. 3 of Mr Ababio's account is our bowl of contention.

Also note that according to the Executive Secretary of National Film Authority, Madam Juliet Asante whose sector is in Charge of Film and the right people to deal with Spike were also moving around trying to book an appointment with Spike for a possible meeting.

FOCAP can clearly conclude that the miscommunication or misinforming or whatever that lead to the meetings not materialising was due to the ineptitude of the DIRECTOR at the Creative Arts Agency who received that call via phone from the Beyond the Return Office.

The Question FOCAP is asking is that

1. Why did the Beyond the Return Office not direct the call straight to NFA.

2. Why did the Creative Arts Agency DIRECTOR also not forward the call to the appropriate quarters since they're in no capacity to deal with it.

And finally

3. HOW MANY SIMILAR OPPORTUNITIES HAVE THE CREATIVE INDUSTRY MISSED due to this ineffective Boardless CREATIVE ARTS AGENCY?
