FASCINATING THROWBACK ABOUT TEMA by Mr. Bernard Brown (CEO of BLACK TRIBE STUDIOS
Mr. Bernard Brown, CEO of Black Tribe Studios https://instagram.com/iambernardbrown?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= and initiative director of Tema Black Arts Festival https://www.facebook.com/basfestafrica?mibextid=ZbWKwL on his Facebook listed extremely interesting places in Tema back in the 90's and the early 2000's which caught the smiles of people whom have had experiences in these areas he has listed below.
If you grew up or ever lived in Tema in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, you would have heard or visited some of these top hangouts in town back then. These are in no particular order of importance.
1. GRAND SPOT
This was one of the go-to places for folks who love to relax to some bottles and music after the day’s hard work
work. The place was so popular that a bus stop was named after it by the people. Just pick a taxi or board trotro and say you you would alight at Grand Spot and you wouldn’t get lost.
In this enclave were also Club Felissa, Ewiase and then the latter day ones like BEEGEES.
2. SELORMS - COMMUNITY 1
Another hot-spot for revellers. Chale,Top Place: music, good sound and lighting.
By hearsay, Selorms was closed down by the Police because there was a brawl and bottles were broken to attack opponents. The end was bad.
3. AVE-MARIA
For people who wanted serene place and wanted to enjoy the sea breeze, Ave-Maria was the place to be. Ave Maria was closed down to make way for the port expansion project.
4. VISION 66- COMMUNITY 8
This place was a rendezvous for cinema/movie lovers. I think it was the only cinema in town.
5. BƐƐMA NKWAN -COMMUNITY 10
Chale, if you were looking for a “Chop-Bar” with correct bush meat, BARIMA NKWAN was the place to go to.
These are my 5 picks for today.
